Demurrage & Per Diem Elimination
Stop Paying. Start Saving.
Proactive container management and dispute-ready documentation makes port drayage easy
Demurrage & Per Diem Elimination
Demurrage and per diem charges become large very quickly when containers are not proactively managed. Our systems, technology, and operational playbooks are designed to prevent these charges from occurring.
Demurrage Elimination
Our automated tracking monitors every container release. Our automated appointment scheduler secures pickup appointments as containers become available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week including releases that happen overnight and on weekends.
In instances where no appointments are available, containers are UTL or in closed areas, or drivers are denied service because of terminal issues, our operations team works directly with the terminals to obtain last free day extensions.
Per Diem Elimination
Per diem happens for many reasons that aren't the customer's fault: empty receiving restrictions, shutouts, terminal schedules, no return appointments, and unavailable return locations. But fault doesn't matter — steamship lines send per diem bills regardless. Since you're billed either way, documenting every restriction is the only protection. Per diem rates are tiered, so the longer an empty stays out, the higher the daily charge climbs — and charges keep accruing on weekends, even when terminals are closed and return is impossible. The only thing standing between you and paying a large per diem bill you didn't create is the diligence of your drayage carrier. That's why we developed a layered playbook to eliminate per diem.
- Empty availability monitored at all customer facilities
- Dual transactions maximized when single-transaction returns are restricted
- Terminal return restrictions tracked in real time across all 12 LA/LB terminals
- Alternate return locations secured when a terminal refuses empties entirely
- Documentation captured in real time — to support successful invoice disputes. Screenshots of empty receiving restrictions, shutouts, terminal schedules, unavailable appointments and emails showing no alternative return locations.
