— Frequently Asked Questions
Questions, Answered.
The questions BCOs, freight forwarders, and 3PLs ask before partnering with us.
For demurrage, our 24/7 automated availability monitoring books appointments as containers are released — before free time expires. If no appointments are available, our system captures the screenshots required to extend free time.
For per diem, it's harder because empty returns depend on terminals, not us. Here's what we do when terminals make returns difficult:
- Single transactions shut out? We book dual transactions instead.
- Terminals refusing empties entirely? We request alternative return locations.
- Alternative locations not available? We request the steamship lines extend last free day.
- All requests denied? Our system already captured the documentation needed to dispute per diem.
BCOs (Beneficial Cargo Owners), freight forwarders, and 3PLs moving freight through the Ports of LA and Long Beach. Their teams are experienced. We handle the front lines so they don't have to. Seventy years in freight has taught us where problems start — and how to stop them before they create headaches and heartburn. That's how we make port drayage easy.
Larger operators serve their largest customers first. Smaller customers get whatever capacity is left, with whichever driver is available, on whichever chassis they can find. We're built differently. Family-owned. Three generations in freight. Our team has handled more than 1 million container moves at LA/Long Beach — we know every appointment system, every chassis pool dynamic, every empty receiving restriction. Long-term partnerships built on exceptional service and value, not transactional volume.
We want to be transparent. Whisk Logistics LLC was founded in 2016. Our family has been in freight since 1953 — when Ray Wisniewski Jr.'s grandfather started in the industry. His father carried it forward. Ray spent 11 years running transportation for the family's previous company before it was sold in 2016. That's when he founded Whisk Logistics. Three generations in freight. The expertise is real. The heritage is real. And we treat it as something to live up to, not lean on.
Yes. We maintain a private fleet of GPS-enabled chassis so our customers are not impacted by pool shortages or empty container return restrictions. Pool shortages can strand your freight at the port for days. Our private fleet means your containers move when they're supposed to move. Plus, GPS tracking provides an additional layer of security when your freight is in transit or staged at your warehouse waiting to be unloaded.
Sister companies. Same family. Same standards. Whisk Logistics is the asset-based drayage specialist at the Ports of LA/Long Beach. Whisk Freight Brokerage serves shippers across all 48 states focusing on Full Truckload, Flatbed, Sprinter Van & Box Truck and Port Drayage outside of LA/Long Beach. Both are run by Ray Wisniewski Jr. The two companies work together when our customers' needs span both — but each is purpose-built for its specific audience.
This happens — and it's one of the biggest hidden costs for shippers. We document every restriction in real time. When the terminal rejects your empty, we capture the proof: timestamps, terminal restrictions, attempted return windows. When the per diem bill arrives anyway, you have the documentation to successfully dispute it. Per diem avoided.
Call us at 562-317-0445 or email contactus@whisklogistics.com. Tell us about your drayage needs — volume, lanes, terminal patterns, current pain points. We'll let you know honestly whether we're a fit, and if we are, we'll start moving your containers. Three generations. One promise. Long-term partnerships built on exceptional service and value.
